With electric vehicle technology ever improving, there are more reasons than ever to consider going electric.
One of the most attractive incentives is the Government’s offer of a grant of up to £2,500 towards the purchase of an electric vehicle.
By incentivising motorists with the plug-in car grant (PiCG), the Government hopes an increase in electric vehicles on our roads will help achieve its targets for cutting CO2 emissions.
The amount of money motorists receive will depend on how much carbon dioxide (CO2) the vehicle produces and how far it can travel without any emissions.
The grant is administered by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV). It decides which cars are eligible based not only on emissions, but also on factors such as safety features, warranty and top speed.
Vehicles eligible for the grant include cars, motorcycles, mopeds, vans, taxis, large vans and trucks.
Motorists do not have to do anything to receive this contribution on a purchase of any electric vehicle as your dealer will automatically include this at the time of purchase. The opportunity to obtain the grant won’t however last forever. The PiCG has already been extended and is now scheduled to end in the 2022-23 financial year.
Those choosing to purchase an electric vehicle are also eligible for up to £350 (including VAT) off the cost of installing a charger at home through the Government’s Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme.
