A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) can be a good option for anyone who’s not ready to go fully electric but still want the benefits such as lower emissions and lower fuel costs, as these hybrids have the back-up of a petrol or diesel engine for longer journies.
A plug-in hybrid offers a combined power source using a petrol engine and a rechargeable battery. The vehicle can recharge the onboard battery through both regenerative braking when the vehicle is in motion and ‘plugging-in’. The battery pack that powers the PHEV motor is larger than that in a standard hybrid meaning it can run on electricity for longer. Most standard hybrids are only capable of running on pure-electric over short distances, but with a plug-in hybrid, you could range between 25-40 miles.
You can charge your plug-in hybrid vehicle with an at-home charger or you can use the public charging points similar to how you would charge a fully electric vehicle.
Thinking of making the switch to a plug-in hybrid? Check out the range of PHEV’s available at our Donnelly Group showrooms across Northern Ireland! We also have a range of used PHEV’s available, as well as a full battery-electric and mild-hybrid electric vehicle range!
