5 Reasons to Consider an Electric or Hybrid Vehicle in 2021

Not so long ago the big question around electric cars and vans was ‘why should I buy one?’

The question now is ‘why would you not?’

With an ever-expanding range of models and increasing ranges, now really is the time to consider an electric purchase. And here are just some of the reasons why.

Low running costs

  • It’s no secret the cost of charging electric vehicles is much less than the cost of the diesel or petrol motorists pump into their cars. In fact, the cost of fully charging many electric vehicles is less than £10
  • The exact costs of running a full electric vehicle can be determined using the calculation below.
  • Size of battery (kWh) x Electricity cost of your supplier (pence per kilowatt hour) = Cost to charge an electric car from absolutely empty to full.
  • If you like the idea of an electric car but want the back-up of a traditional petrol or diesel engine you could still reduce fuel costs by considering a plug-in hybrid vehicle.

No Vehicle Tax

  • Fully electric vehicles are exempt from Vehicle Excise Duty (vehicle tax) which result in annual savings which become even more significant over time.
  • If you're a company car driver you will benefit from significantly reduced Benefit in Kind costs.

Environmentally Friendly

  • Electric vehicles emit less greenhouse gases and air pollutants over their lifetime than a petrol or diesel vehicle.
  • This contributes to a reduction in air pollution improving the air we breathe.

£3,000 Grant on Full Electric Vehicles

  • To incentivise private motorists to purchase electric, the UK government is offering grants of up to £3,000 towards the purchase (on vehicles up to £50,000).
  • Motorists can also claim up to £350 (including VAT) off the cost of installing a charger at home through the Government’s Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme.

Up to 300 miles on one charge

  • How far an electric vehicle can go on one charge should no longer be a concern - with up to 300 miles now available on selected full electric vehicles.

And with a network of 337 public charge points across Northern Ireland, motorists should never be more than 10 miles from their nearest charging point. With ranges now reaching up to 300 miles on a single charge, partnered with the ever-decreasing charge times, ensures electric motoring is now an option for even more buyers.
