What is PIP?

The Government are replacing the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) with Personal Independence Payments (PIPs) for disabled people aged between 16 and 64. This process began in April 2013 in Great Britain and in Northern Ireland in June 2016. It is expected to be complete by 2019.

PIPs focus on how a person’s disability affects their ability to plan and undertake a journey independently. It’s about what people can do rather than the nature of their disability.

To receive the enhanced rate of PIP and to be eligible to join the Scheme someone needs to get at least 12 points either through the mobility component or planning or making a journey.
