Donnelly Group Dungannon Welcomes Four Placement Students in Partnership with South West College

Donnelly Group, Northern Ireland’s largest family-owned new and used vehicle retailer, has welcomed four students from South West College onto its 12-week placement programme.

The students, from South West College’s Dungannon Campus, are placed across a range of divisions, including; Accounts, IT, HR and Services.

Robert Fitzpatrick, Head of Group Learning and Development at Donnelly Group, said:

“Our placement programme in partnership with South West College, provides students with the opportunity to gain practical hands-on experience that works around their studies.

“Over the years we have facilitated many students from South West College for placements, a significant number of which have gone on to become full time members of staff at the Donnelly Group. The placement programmes are designed to provide students with workplace experience and have proven a very beneficial way to provide students with a real sense of what it would be like to work in their chosen career.

“At Donnelly Group, we ensure an unrivalled learning environment with some of the best mentors in the industry. The feedback we get each year is always fantastic and it is great to see how much the students learn and develop their skills over the 12-week period.

“Our placement students also join 45 Year One apprentices that we have on board this year through the Donnelly Group apprentice programme. That is in addition to those completing Year Two and Year Three apprenticeships.”

The Donnelly Group Apprentice Programme is aimed at equipping 16-21 year olds with the knowledge and experience required for a career in the motor industry.

Rosemary Carson, Lecturer at South West College Business school, said:

“Through our partnership with the Donnelly Group, our students have a fantastic opportunity to work alongside and learn from experts in their chosen field.

“There have been a number of South West College students who have gone on to secure full-time employment with Donnelly Group after finishing their studies, which is evidence of how valuable and beneficial the placement and apprenticeship opportunities are.

“At South West College we understand the importance of work experience, especially as the job market gets more and more competitive, and the support of local employers such as the Donnelly Group in providing these opportunities for our students is hugely appreciated.

“We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Donnelly Group in the future, and offering our students the best learning experience, both inside and outside the classroom.”

The South West College operates in Northern Ireland on four campuses in Cookstown, Dungannon, Enniskillen and Omagh.
