The Peugeot 2008 is one of the newer additions to the compact crossover class and it takes the Peugeot 208 supermini as its base, sharing engines and many of the interior components. However, the 2008 offers tougher looks, a higher driving position and more space for passengers and luggage, making this a superb car to buy.
Peugeot 2008 Design
The Peugeot 2008 is clearly inspired by the 208, featuring the same stylish swept-back headlights, bold chrome grille and defined creases. A set of roof rails comes as standard, while the slightly squared-off wheel arches and rugged cladding help lend the 2008 a bit of an SUV look.
The brand-new engine offers radical improvements in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions – but of course this doesn’t compromise performance.
Believe it or not, a 2008 can do as much as 78.5mpg. The six engines in the range are incredibly efficient and the e-HDi start/stop technology helps to save fuel. All 2008 models come with a top Euro 5 rating on emissions.
Dependent on the model you choose, the 2008 has CO2 emissions as low as 99g/km, which means less impact on the environment.
Despite their 4x4 looks, all 2008’s are front-wheel drive. However, some versions do come with Peugeot's Grip Control system, which lets the driver optimise the car's electronics for different conditions at the twist of a dial.
Also, the 2008 comes with the latest-generation Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), which is able to detect the first signs of a sideways skid and helps reduce oversteer. It keeps the car on course by reducing engine power and braking individual wheels. Department of Transport statistics reveal that cars fitted with ESP are 25 percent less likely to be involved in fatal accidents, making this another reason why the Peugeot 2008 is such a good choice.
