The new Citroën Berlingo van has picked up another two awards, 'Van of the Year' and 'Small Van of the Year', at the inaugural Fleet World Great British Fleet Awards 2019. The Berlingo van won both prizes jointly with its Groupe PSA stablemates, Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo. New Berlingo Van was presented with the award in a ceremony at the Novotel London West.
Speaking about the ‘Van of the Year’ award, Van Fleet World Editor, Dan Gilkes, said; “The new Citroën Berlingo is such a departure from its predecessor and such an improvement over it, that this was an easy choice for the judges.”
Gilkes continued, “The small van market is hugely competitive and incredibly diverse. Outgrowing its car-derived origins, this class of van now has to cover everything from a 600kg, 3m3 compact LCV, through to a 4.4m3 long wheelbase model with a one-tonne payload. Citroën’s new Berlingo van has all the bases covered. Offering two wheelbases with two body lengths, the van delivers a load-hauling solution to suit all operations. A revised three-seat cab, with fold-flat passenger seating and load-through bulkhead provide real versatility, while crew cab models deliver a truly versatile combination of goods and people-carrying ability.”
Gilkes concluded; “Add in a selection of award-winning diesel and petrol engines, manual and automatic transmissions and an incredible range of driver assistance and safety systems, and it’s easy to see why the new PSA Group vans captured the attention of the International Van of the Year jury.”
The new Berlingo van has been racking up the awards since its launch late last year. It won the 2019 ‘International Van of the Year’ award at the IAA Hanover Commercial Vehicle Show last autumn, and in December it was named both the ‘Light Commercial Vehicle of the Year’ and ‘Light Van of the Year’ at the 2019 What Van? Awards. Late January, the new Berlingo Van won the ‘Small Van of the Year’ award from Company Car and Van magazine.
