Toyota Gazoo Racing’s world championship-winning performance inspires the look and handling of a new addition to the C-HR crossover range that will be introduced in 2021. The new C-HR GR Sport blends all the model’s established appeal with extra sports styling, inside and out and suspension and steering revised for sharper dynamic performance.
The C-HR GR Sport presents a more powerful look with a black finish for the headlight and fog light housings, the central bumper section and the background to the Toyota emblem. The grille is rendered in dark chrome and there is a more prominently styled front spoiler.
The assertive look is further emphasised with black mouldings added to the doors and a GR Sport design for the larger, 19-inch alloy wheels which have a contrast black and machined-face finish. At the rear, the theme continues with black reflector surrounds, a new under-bumper trim and GR Sport badging.
A bi-tone paint finish is part of the standard specification with eight colours to choose from, including a new Ash Grey and black roof combination that’s exclusive to the GR Sport.
The sports theme continues into the cabin with a smart Cool Silver deco line and a choice of Alcantara-trimmed leather or all-fabric seat upholstery, both choices featuring GR-inspired red and grey stitching. The three-spoke steering wheel has a perforated leather finish with red stitching – also featured on the shift lever gaiter. The GR logo is emblazoned on the scuff plates, the stop-start button and the start-up animation in the driver’s multi-information display.
The equipment specification provides rear privacy glass, smart entry, LED headlights, heated front seats and auto-retracting door mirrors. The Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system with navigation and smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also provided as standard. The options include a nine-speaker JBL Premium Sound audio system.
The C-HR GR Sport benefits from sharper driving dynamics to match its sporty looks, while preserving ride comfort. The front and rear springs have been stiffened by 10 and 15 per cent respectively and the shock absorbers have been tuned for increased damping force, particularly on the rebound. The 1.8-litre hybrid version benefits from the larger diameter anti-roll bar that’s used in the 2.0-litre hybrid for greater stiffness. Together these measures improve body roll and pitch control. The steering system has also been tuned for better response and the GR Sport rides on model-specific tyres.
The C-HR GR Sport will be available with both 1.8 and 2.0-litre hybrid electric powertrains. Pricing and further specification details will be announced nearer the C-HR GR Sport’s on-sale date in early 2021.
