Performance, Practicality and up to 10-year Warranty Earn Toyota Three Parkers New Car Awards

  • GR Yaris is Best Car for Thrill-seekers
  • Proace Electric is Best Electric Van
  • Proace City is Best Small Van for second year running
  • Toyota’s ground-breaking Relax up to 10-year warranty programme a defining factor for Toyota’s success against its LCV competitors

Toyota has enjoyed triple success in the 2022 Parkers New Car Awards with honours shared between the out-and-out performance star GR Yaris and the eminently business-like Proace Electric and Proace City vans.

For GR Yaris, it is another award to add to its massive haul since launch last year, while Proace Electric and Proace City have cemented their success with the benefit of the new Toyota Relax warranty programme – free cover for up to 10 years/100,000 miles.

Announcing the awards today, Keith Adams, Editor of Parkers, one of the UK’s best-respected most popular sources for new and used car news and consumer advice, explained the qualities that set the Toyotas apart.

Commenting on GR Yaris being named Best Car for Thrill-seekers, he described it as “the absolute pinnacle of the hot hatch world,” adding: “The GR’s appeal isn’t based purely on speed – its feedback and feel are unrivalled and its ability to deliver old-school thrills are near-addictive.”

CJ Hubbard, Parker’s Van and Pickup Editor, highlighted the Relax warranty programme as the factor that put Proace Electric “ahead of the current electric van pack” in taking the Best Electric Van award, together with its “impressive driving range and payload options.”

It was the same story for Proace City, winner for a second successive year in the Best Small Van category, with the Relax warranty acclaimed as a “genius move.” Hubbard declared: “Combine that with the growing Toyota Professional network and for us there was only one winner.”

Toyota Relax, launched in June this year, is a ground-breaking approach that gives motorists complete peace-of-mind protection for their vehicle for up to 10 years or 100,000 miles of driving. A first for the UK motor industry, it gives Toyota owners 12 months/10,000 miles cover for their vehicle each time they have it serviced at an official Toyota centre.

It follows on seamlessly from Toyota’s three-year/60,000-mile new vehicle warranty and is available for any Toyota – cars, vans and pickups – up to 10 years old or with up to 100,000 miles on the clock. It applies whether the vehicle was purchased new by the owner or has passed through several different ownerships. The warranty is automatically applied and there is no additional cost to the customer. Full details, terms and conditions can be found at www.toyota.co.uk.

Rob Giles, Toyota (GB) Customer Services Director, said: “These awards capture the breadth of quality and owner-appeal of Toyota products today – from our World Rally-inspired, sell-out success GR Yaris, to our fast-developing Toyota Professional LCV range and our first pure electric model.

“It’s the fundamental quality, durability and reliability of all the cars we make that let’s us give customers the benefit of the Toyota Relax warranty – an unmatched offer of up to 10 years’ cover. It’s hugely rewarding for us to see Parkers highlighting the real benefit of this in giving us these much-valued awards.”

The awards are designed to reflect the views of the UK’s car and van-buyers who visit Parkers’ online reviews, advice and buying guide. The ultimate winners are chosen from a shortlist prepared by its team of expert reviewers.
