Following the successful launch of the British built Corolla Commercial two weeks ago, media reports have praised the new car-derived van that is equipped with a full hybrid powertrain – a unique feature in the UK commercial vehicle (CV) market.
Corolla Commercial will add a new dimension to the Toyota CV range of Hilux, Land Cruiser and diesel and electric powered Proace and Proace City and is positioned as the only offering of its kind in the market. Based on the Corolla Touring Sports and powered by the 1.8-litre hybrid powertrain, this car-derived van will appeal to businesses which are not quite ready to make the switch to fully electric vehicles or whose vehicle usage pattern would not allow for downtime to charge electric vehicles. For example, during the working day or when unanticipated vehicle access is required around the clock.
This exclusive appeal was highlighted by Dean Gibson at Auto Express who said: “The Toyota Corolla Commercial is a vehicle for the moment: it fills a very specific niche within the commercial vehicle sector, so much so that it’s the only model of its type that currently for sale.”
Rob Gill from The Sun references the Toyota 10 year/100,000 mile Relax warranty: “People trust Toyotas because of their Japanese reliability. Well, here’s a working van that is just as dependable – it has up to a ten-year warranty. If you have a light-load business the Corolla van has a lot going for it.”
With its car like handling and safety systems, WhatCar? said: “When it comes to ride quality, the Corolla Commercial sets itself apart from rivals, because overall it’s very supple and well controlled. You’ll also be getting plenty of safety equipment with adaptive cruise control, pre-collision warning, lane keep assist, automatic high beam and road-sign assist all fitted as standard.”
The Corolla Commercial is available now, priced on-the-road at £26,510 (£22,149 commercial vehicle OTR excluding VAT).
