Electric cars have been talked about for years and finally the wait is over, the batteries are modern lithium- ion and the myth is dispelled. The technology is amazing, they handle like a conventional vehicle and the future of driving is here.
Donnelly Group are part of the consortium together with Northern Ireland district councils which is actively rolling out the electric vehicle scheme across the province.
For more information on the scheme visit the new Northern Ireland eCar website
What electric vehicles and manufacturers are currently available to drive away at Donnelly Group?
A Up to 80 MPH in the current range of production vehicles.
A Every manufacturer varies a little, but the general rule is approximately 80 miles on a full charge. Obviously the road conditions and driving techniques will affect the fuel consumption as with all vehicles.
A Each vehicle comes with its own charging lead. It is a regular 13amp 3 Pin plug which plugs straight into your socket, either at home or into a public charging unit. Charging units will be available in the near future in public car parks, on street charging units, at hotels and of course at fuel filling stations. A government grant has been awarded to Northern Ireland to roll out the installation of public charging points.
A Less than £2 on Economy 7, so based on 10,000 miles per annum, that is approximately £250 per year
A A standard charge currently takes 8 hours however the ‘Rapid chargers’ are imminent and the new fast chargers will take 20 minutes, a similar length of time as it would take to fill your tank and have a coffee break.
A £5000 is currently available in a one off grant to purchase a new Electric vehicle.
